The Design is simple and looks not as professional as the websites or application of other competitors, which is on purpose. The website should have the feeling of a blog - made by unprofessionals creating a website with limited skills but a lot of creativity. The functions of the website is compressed in two areas - music and communication.
strength: easy usability, interactive user experience, unique approach to design, good overview on functions, room for improvements and developements
weaknesses: the specific blog design feel can be not attractive to certain kinds of people (people who like more modern design etc,), would be probably more used by teenagers or young adolescents, which are not legally aloud to pay for subscription
On 09.10.2013, lthe project work was presented. The task is the conception of the annual exhibition of the Macromedia University of Media and Communication (MHMK) in Berlin in 2014 of project work of all study programmes. The theme of the exhibition is "Kaleidoscope". In order to get closer to the topic, I have informed myself about kaleidoscopes under the following key points:
1 Etymology
2 Personality
3 Largest Kaleidoscope
4 Software
5 Other Meanings (Source: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaleidoskop, 10.10.2013, 10:43 am)
From this information I have created a Mind-Map.
translations : - Multimedia - Station (Internet): Short film - visualizing process: photo collage, timeline, at Vernissage Miniliveprojekt (students edits a task live ) - word collage/wall - room design depending on the theme/semester etc. - podiums/text bordering/ shapes in kaleidoscope formed walls with project images - neon tubes/tube/ in the color of study course
Then I looked at various exhibitions. I liked this one the best.
I like the unusual arrangement of the objects in the room. (Source: http://www.galerie-ls.de/nc/ galerie.html,10/25/2013, 14:21)
On 23.10.2013 our lecturer presented examples of his work, on which he worked partly with the software SketchUp, with which we have to design the 2014 annual exhibition of the MHMK Berlin. SketchUp is software for creating a three-dimensional model on the computer. Using the example of fashion designer Michael Michalsky's StyleNite, the students were to develop their first ideas for the catwalk of the summer 2014 collection. As additional information was given: - The fashion shows of Michael Michalsky usually have a social, social and urban context or refers to current events/problems - his fashion is classic with urban elements
Mensch-Ärger-Dich-Nicht-Figures represent the Indviduum in a society that the models have to circumnate
The tree in a abstract way represents the structured organic dynamic in an urban city.
The human made water parks in a city tries to give people who live in the city some kind of connection to organic parts of nature.
Exhibition Design, Room Design, Architecture, 3D
1.When will the annual exhibition take place?
Probably on April 16, 2014 (as part of the Open Campus)
2.What topics are presented there?
All courses and directions. The aim is to show what results are produced in the university. In the form of posters, films & audio if necessary
3.Is there a top topic and sponsors?
We consider calling the exhibition "Kaleidoscope" / putting it under the theme. Currently, "Serviceplan" and "Meta Design" have promised sponsorship. In addition, of course, there is also a budget of the university for this, here we are probably talking about about 2000 €
4.Are there any other courses involved in the design of the exhibition and, if so, in what way?
There are two MM students who take care of the topic of sponsorship, organization and co. The two MM students accompany the project as part of a "Student Initiative" In general, however, MKD is responsible for the conception, planning and implementation and is therefore "in the lead".
5.Who is responsible for marketing?
The two MM students
6.What is the budget for the exhibition?
See above, I estimate 3000 euros should come together.
7.Who is responsible for the Coperate Design etc.?
This is worked out in Informations/Communication Design
8.How many visitors should visit at least this exhibition?
Treasures on an open campus can be 200 people in the house.
The idea is that the exhibition objects are not only visible for one day, but then go down to the interior design.
I also asked whether the university has floor plans with the dimensions of the university's rooms and whether the benefits are allowed or whether the rooms themselves have to be measured.
Yes, They are available but they are not ideal. The essential measures have to be measured again. But I make them available to you as basics.
I just have to check beforehand to what extent I have to "anonymize" them beforehand. Insurance policy must not be made public, in which room most computers are located, etc.
Therefore, the plans are "sensitive" in a way.
On 06.11.2013 our lecturer explained the structure of a briefing using the example of the lettering from the company Dreipunktnull to Michael Michalsky's StyleNite and at a briefing by Ableton. The question arose as to whether the exhibition should be designed for the students or for the university. Several SketchUp models of the stage for the StyleNite were presented. Then we have listed what is needed for the design of the interior design of the annual exhibition: - MHMK Brandbook - Outline - what is shown in the exhibition - Title of the exhibition (Ideas): - Prism - Breaking Color -> Pink Floyd - Diamond -> uneven - all courses form a Form - Transparency - Lens -> Focusing, Peeling... - "Bringing everything under one roof" - "the big picture" - Chameleon - Pixel images -Multi-layered (example Casa de Musica) - clear direction->Progess requirement + main facts - different Delivery - Media - mhmk - C.I. - > Main color + 4 secondary colors - spatial limitation -> Interior / several rooms (2nd floors) - 4 main courses of study -> 12 fields of study
After discussing the details, our lecturer introduced the Basic Tools for SketchUp and the task of completing the SketchUp file created by our Professor.On 20.11.2013, a two group of students was to measure the rooms of the MHMK and model them in SketchUp and the third group was to hang posters of the project work. In the end, there was the homework that a group would create floor plans in SketchUp and divide the remaining students for the division of the rooms (by degree, project work).
These are the floor plans: 1.OG of the MHMK Berlin
Ideas for the exhibition were discussed on 4.12.2013.
This is the list of ideas:1.OG :
-> "Welcome"
-> Drinks
-> Opening/Program
->Stage/Speaker
-> Flyer
-> Theme MHMK General
-> Experience MHMK : - World of Students - 1.Hand Infos - Campus Life -Location+Berlin+Foreign Semester
Journalism:
- Headphones
- Spoken Text
- Print/Photo
Media Management: Print Moving Image/Video
Reception:Shirts
Subsequently, topics were discussed in which rooms topics can be presented and individual groups then looked more closely at the possibilities of ruminess. The next task was to form groups and plan the concept of the exhibition.
For organisational reasons, I am working on a concept on my own. This is my concept: 1.OG
dark blue: On the first floor, the topic of "studying at the MHMK Berlin": Directly when you enter, there is a reception area where flyers, a plan of the exhibition + the opening of the exhibition and an exhibition catalogue as well as material from the MHMK about study courses etc. are available. At the reception area, there should always be two people on hand to answer questions and be responsible for the cloakroom.
red: In addition, a "welcome" video will be shown as a projection in the way to the cafeteria of the university. Students/professors/employees, etc., will each hold a sign with a word
written on it, which will then result in a sentence/text together.
Purple: In this room, a "reading and audio corner" will be created, where visitors can read magazines of the media management and journalism courses, as well as recordings of interviews
that the students have recorded for their magazines, and you can also listen to the radio of the MHMK.
black: This course is intended to depict a typical career of a student from the first seminar to the successful owner of a design agency or similar, which is to be represented by means of
photos and text and the respective stations are represented with a "red thread" to be depicted as a timeline.
Fuchsia pink: This space is about the campus life of the MHMK. There, fim excerpts and photos of the campus will be shown, as well as individual interviews with students who report on studying at the MHMK. In addition, photos on the PC monitors, the entire interviews of the students and a tour of the MHMK can be played in several behind loops one after the other without a break.
orange: In this course, the potential student and partner is to be presented with the city of Berlin as a historical, cultural and sporting metropolis as well as other important aspects. From the
student's point of view, this is to be represented by photos and text under the theme "Mein Berlin".
Brown: In this room, video excerpts of the students about the topic "Mein Berlin" are to be shown over a beamer in the loop. The projection is to be projected on the curtain present in this room
to give the projection a special effect.
pink: In this room, the windows that are present there should serve as projection surfaces. There, the all the media mentioned so far are to be used. In addition, interviews will be shown
by the professors and staff, various project work of the study programmes, etc. Since there is only one projector, one should change its direction - position in between the projector
Turquoise: All planned musical acts, panel discussions, etc. are to take place in this room.
Lilac: The Cafeteria should be used to offer cakes, pastries and various Drinks.
light lilac: In this room, everything important about the semester abroad will be presented in posters, pictures, texts and videos from the point of view of students who have already been abroad.
2.OG Culture and Management I: The different roles of culture in management
Green: The loft is to exhibit all project work of the MKD course. Here, various things are to be projected on a wall with the projectors mounted on the ceiling, such as interviews of professors
who teach the MKD students and help with the projects, as well as the MKD students themselves. The interviews are about the content of the study, campus life, the course of project work,
etc. In addition, all project work, photos, etc. will also be projected.
In addition, exhibition objects will be shown in specially built platforms.
These platforms are to resemble a prism with two different lenses each, which metaphorically serve as a line-direction breaker/encoder of the control system in relation to the exhibition title.
The platforms should have the shape of a prism,because the prism splits a light ray into several different - colored light beams and this principle is also based for the control system of the
exhibition and also in the figurative sense on the MHMK, since you offer several courses of study in one place.
In addition, the three monitors in the loft will be used to show the work of the three MKD study programmes as well as interviews with the students.
In addition, photos and posters with text from the process of project work are to be attached to the walls.
Gray: The course of study In Media Management is to be presented in this room. Photos, posters, etc. as well as interviews by the professors for the course media management and the
students will be shown via projection and monitor.The various courses of study will be presented.
black: The journalism course is to be presented in this room. The same concept as the other courses of study should be used, but headphones should also be available to listen to the interviews
for articles or read articles. In addition, articles/magazines will be prepared on each table so that visitors can read through the exhibition.
red: In this room the projects and, if possible, interviews of clients (partners) are to be shown. In addition, the partners of the MHMK will be presented by posters next to the posters/photos of the project work.
The project has given an insight into the spatial conception of an exhibition and what steps are necessary. What was interesting was how things from everyday life can be used as inspiration. In the beginning, one first tries to develop one's idea without any technical or other restrictions and then either to find solutions for this or to adapt the visual idea. Since the program which we used was intuitiv to use, one could very quickly implement his ideas in three dimensions. This three-dimensionality identifies possible weaknesses in the spatial concept and allows it to be adapted.
